Frequently Asked Questions

常見問題: FAQ

What is music therapy?

Music therapy is a research-based allied health profession that aims to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of patients and improve their quality of life through music.

What benefits does music therapy offer?

Music therapy primarily helps with the development and needs of five major areas: social, communication, cognition, motor, and emotional.

Are there age restrictions for receiving treatment?

There is no age limit; anyone can receive treatment, and musical knowledge is not required. The therapist will design a treatment plan based on the needs of the recipient.

What is the process of individual music therapy?

Our individual music therapy services begin with a one-hour evaluation by a registered music therapist, involving both parents and child. This includes a meeting with parents to discuss the child's situation and needs, as well as music therapy activities with the child to observe their needs and collaboratively establish treatment goals (*this evaluation is not a clinical diagnosis). Following the evaluation, a weekly music therapy session of approximately 45-60 minutes will be scheduled, with eight sessions constituting one course of treatment to ensure the child's progress. Finally, the therapist will conduct a progress review with the parents after each course of treatment.

Do I need to undergo an assessment before joining a music therapy social focus group?

No, the assessment is only for individual music therapy. However, if you are interested in participating in a music therapy social focus group, you can try a class first. The therapist will also observe the child's performance and provide simple feedback.

Should my child participate in individual therapy or a music therapy social focus group?

Our music therapy social focus group recommends that children have basic communication and instructional skills. If parents believe their child lacks these abilities, individual music therapy can begin. Parents can also provide more information about their child to the registered music therapist for advice. (Our center offers music therapy social focus groups for both language and non-language groups; please contact our staff or therapists for details.)

If a child has participated in individual music therapy for a period of time, can he/she participate in a music therapy social focus group?

Yes, if the therapist and parents believe that the child has made significant progress in achieving the treatment goals after a period of individual music therapy, and is suitable to join a group to learn and improve social skills, the child can try participating in a music therapy social focus group.

Does the center offer graded examinations for individual instrumental courses (such as piano)?

中心的樂器課程旨在培養學生學習音樂的樂趣,不會特別催谷考試。然而本中心的樂器導師都具專業資格,家長在查詢時可提出您的期望,讓我們作出適當的安排。
